Based on 2004 statistics, 116 000 people live within the town limits of Seversk. 94% of this population resides in the town proper while the remaining 6% are in surrounding hamlets. The mean age of the urban population is 37,4 and 50,5% are considered working age. Pensioners comprise 20,4% of total population while the school-aged group (ages 6-18) make up 14,3%. The under-school age population is 5,2% and the university-aged student group is just over 8%. The number of registered unemployed accounts for roughly 2,5% of the population.
The town's unemployment department offers a variety of social services aimed at alleviating suffering associated with the strained economy. The employment service conducted job skills training to unemployed persons. The department provides also assistance in the form of temporary work programs for the unemployed and youth sector.
